Claims guide

How to talk about your impact.

What each line of your record lets you say, so your report, your posts and your people tell the same story.

Each tier, its own words.

Quote each tier on its own, and never add them together.

  1. 01

    Reported activity

What your people did, as recorded.

    You can say

“N colleagues completed N actions over 12 weeks.”

  2. 02

    Estimated impact

Worked out with documented factors. Keep the label.

    You can say

“An estimated N tonnes CO2e avoided (estimated, not verified).”

  3. 03

    Verified impact

Only what an independent verifier has signed off.

    You can say

“Verified by an independent reviewer, report dated …”

Contribution or compensation: know which you're making.

Contribution (the default)

  • You funded climate action beyond your own walls.
  • Suits programmes, sponsorship and credits retired in your name.
  • Needs no emissions inventory.

Compensation

  • Retired credits account for part of your measured emissions.
  • Needs your own emissions inventory.
  • Your claim, in your reporting. Bloom never makes it for you.
Examples of each
  • A contribution claim

“We funded the retirement of N tonnes of registry-issued credits as a contribution to climate action.”

  • A compensation claim

You confirm you hold an emissions inventory when you choose it. Keep the claim to the tonnes retired, the year and the scope they relate to.

Swap the risky phrase for the true one.

  • Not: emissions cancelled or balanced out

Say: “We funded the retirement of N tonnes of registry-issued credits.”

  • Not: “Our employees saved N tonnes”

Say: “an estimated N tonnes CO2e avoided (estimated, not verified).”

  • Not: “verified” before independent review

Say “estimated” until a verifier's signed report exists.

  • Not: “eco-friendly” or “green”

Say what was done, where, by whom and on what evidence.

  • Not: employees personally cancelled emissions

Say: “Your participation unlocked N kg of retirements, funded by [Company].”

  • Not: tax savings as a promise

Say: “There may be a tax benefit, to confirm with your adviser.”

Why these swaps
  • Funded is fact

What you funded is fact. What it cancels is a claim a contribution can't support.

  • Keep the label and the tier

An estimate keeps its label, stays with its tier, and is never added to a verified result or to retired credits.

  • The record lists the evidence

What was done, where, by whom and on what evidence: the impact record lists all four.

  • The claim sits with the funder

The company funded the credits, so that is where the claim sits, not with each employee.

  • Not a tax certificate

The employee statement is a supporting record, not a tax certificate.

  • We follow it too

This website can't be published if any page describes cancelling emissions or promises outcomes. Records and reports pass the same check.

Sentences you can use.

Fill in N and the brackets from your own record.

  • In your sustainability report

“Our people's participation unlocked the retirement of N tonnes of registry-issued credits in our name, with serial numbers on [registry].”

  • On LinkedIn

“N colleagues took part in our programme, and N kept going for at least 8 of the 12 weeks.”

  • To your people

“Your participation unlocked N kg of retirements, funded by [Company]. Thank you for keeping going.”

  • For a funded project

“We funded [project] in [place], delivered by [partner]. Results are estimated until the independent review is complete.”
