Integrity & methodology
How we keep impact honest.
The rules behind every number on a Bloom record, so you can trust what it says.
Reported, estimated, verified. Never mixed.
Every line on a record belongs to one tier. The tiers are never added together.
- 01
Reported activity
What people did, as the platform recorded it: a completed challenge, a check-in, a site's monthly reading.
What may be said
“X participants completed Y actions.”
- 02
Estimated impact
Worked out with conservative, documented factors, each stored with its version.
What may be said
“Estimated, not verified.”
- 03
Verified impact
Only what an independent verifier has reviewed and signed off.
What may be said
“Verified.”
Conservative, documented, versioned.
We choose factors that understate impact rather than overstate it. Each names its source and year, and past results keep the version they were worked out with.
How every estimate is kept
Conservative by default
An estimate should be one you could defend, not one that flatters.
Documented and named
Each factor names its source and the year it applies to, so anyone reading the record can look it up.
Versioned
When a factor changes it gets a new version, so last quarter's figures never shift quietly.
Every calculation keeps its working
The inputs, the units, the factor version, the time and the person who reviewed it are stored with every result.
Checked by people with nothing to gain.
An independent verifier
Nothing is verified until an independent verifier, paid a fixed fee, signs a report.
Sellers never mark the homework
The people who agree contracts have no say in how impact is calculated or verified.
The registry has the last word
We act only as an agent for registry-issued credits, and check every serial.
The rules in full
Independent of everyone in the deal
A verifier linked to the project partner, the credit seller or Bloom's sales team is blocked before they can take the work.
Paid a fixed fee
Verifiers are paid by the party that hires them, never a commission on what they approve.
Evidence that can't be changed
Each review is a case with restricted, time-limited access. Evidence versions are locked once submitted.
Findings, then sign-off
Findings carry a severity and a deadline. Only a signed, versioned report changes a tier, and a verifier can never approve their own work.
An agent, not an owner
We never create credits or own them, and take no margin on their price and no share of their proceeds.
Live registry checks
Serials are checked with the registry before every sale and every day while a lot is listed. A mismatch freezes the lot.
Every unit of impact is counted once.
Each unit has one claim owner. A company claims what it funded, and its people's estimated impact is not claimed a second time.
How double counting is stopped
No serial listed twice
A range of credit serial numbers can be listed only once. Retired and transferred serials are reconciled against the registry every day.
Four ledgers that never convert
Points, the impact record, credits and money are kept apart. Points never become credits, and an estimate is never added to retired credits.
Projected is not issued
Credits a project expects to earn are never shown as credits it has. Only units a registry has issued can be listed or retired.
Promises we make, and don't.
If we break one of these, tell us, and we will publish that too.
We make these
- Reported, estimated and verified kept apart, on every record.
- Conservative, documented factors, with the version named.
- Where the money goes, shared before anyone pays.
- The partner who delivered each project, named.
- We tell you when things go wrong.
We don't make these
- Nothing called verified before independent review.
- No unit of impact counted twice.
- No one's activity shown to employers, or used in appraisals.
- No tax relief called certain, no statement called a tax certificate.
- No carbon called converted unless a partner physically captured and used it.
